All new positions to be hired will need to go through an interview process that is monitored by the Camp Director and Adult staff.  An excess of qualified applicants may result in a rotational system each week or the hiring of the most qualified individual.  The number of positions will be determined by the attendance of students each week.

 

1.  Camp Director qualifications:

--Director must have at least 2 years of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp

--Preferred to be on church staff full time and in charge of Youth and/or Family Ministries and paid on salary by the church for a variety of duties

 --position is hired by the church

--In order to be accredited the director must maintain an average of 5 hours of professional development per year that addresses the individual’s needs related to the ACA competencies.

--Director must be at least 25 years of age

--The Director is considered the only year round employee for the camp

--Job description:  The camp director is in charge of all facets of the camp, including but not limited to:

--Design and implementation including accreditation with ACA

--camp policies

--camp overall design (times, rates, etc.)

--Delegating duties as needed to adult or other staff

--Hiring of workers

--sending out, receiving, and evaluating applications

--interviewing

--making final decision of who will fill each position

--designing and implementing all staff training and in-service days

--holding each worker accountable

--growing staff as disciples for Christ

--seeing all qualifications are met

--fingerprints

--background checks

--Materials

--ordering, buying, shipping

--calling businesses

--Budget

--designing and constantly reviewing camp budget

--making adjustments as needed base on weekly attendance

--Communications

 --staff and parent/campers

--Long term planning

 

2. Adult Leaders (red shirt)

a. Position will be filled on an as needed basis.  Adult leaders are preferred to be on staff at Ascension or other adult volunteers to help in any way needed with the director.  Youth may be hired specifically by the director based upon experience and qualifications observed during previous camps.

b. Job description for the co-director includes but is not limited to:

1. Assist with the director for the camp

2. Responsible for the day to day activities of the camp and is to report all information to the director

a. How teachers and campers are doing

b. How classrooms and options are doing

c. Making sure transitions are on time and smooth

d. Any incidences of concern

 

3. Professor—main teacher of a grade level class (orange shirt)

a. Must be 18 years or older and fingerprinted/background check/NSOPW

b. Minimum wage set by the state of AZ for that year, 40 hour/week for duration of camp

c. Hours are from 8am-4pm, Monday through Friday

d. Job description includes but is not limited to the following:

1. Head teacher of the class in charge of a group of campers

a. Before care and After Care

2. Design and implement age appropriate Bible study

3. In charge of the well-being and safety for all campers

4. Keep track of the campers throughout the day, making sure to stay in ratio and all are accounted for

a. Especially during transitions

5. Work with other staff as a team

a. Meeting with younger staff as needed

b. Discussing concerns with director as needed

6. Work with campers

a. Have fun with them/interact with them

b. Know their names and personalities

c. Be interested in their lives

d. Help them to feel welcomed and appreciated

e. Teach them how to interact in a Godly manner

f. Help with any conflicts

7. Be a leader

a. Be Faithful and responsible

b. Able to improvise on the spot

c. Openness to new and different ideas

d. Solve problems quickly and efficiently

8. Males work with only male students or a combination class, females work with all combinations

9. Work well with their parents

a. Get to know who they are

b. Help them to trust leaving their kid with you

10. Opening and Closing

a. Monitor kids

b. Keep involved and quiet when needed

c. Keep in designated section

d. Help facilitate sign in/out procedures

11. Be involved

12. Willingness to play games or do a skit

13. Sometimes design parts of the opening/closing program

14. Help Clean Up

a. Rearrange sanctuary and rooms

b. Clean up trash and floors

c. Clean out and wipe down jumping castles

 

4.  Camp Counselor

a. Minimum wage set by the state of AZ for that year, 40 hour/week for duration of camp

b. Morning shift from 7:30am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday

i. Responsible for before care duties

ii. Assist with the director with needed duties throughout the day

iii. Sub for any teachers as needed

c. Afternoon shift from 10am to 6pm, Monday through Friday

i. Responsible for after care duties

ii. Assist with the director with needed duties throughout the day

iii. Sub for any teachers as needed

d. Qualifications include the characteristics listed above

e. Hired on an as needed basis

 

5. Teacher's Assistant (TA)—help professor with grade level class (blue shirt)

a. Must be in High School or above

b. Minimum wage set by the state of AZ for that year, 6 hours per day, 1 guaranteed week of pay only at 30 hours, all other weeks are subjected to the number of campers and workers available, volunteer times are available

c. Hours are from 9am-3:00pm

e.  Job description includes but is not limited to the following:

1. Assistant teacher to the professor

2. Help design and implement Bible studies

3. Help professor with the well-being and safety of all campers

4. Help professor with keeping track of all students throughout the day

5. Work as a team with other staff

a. Discussing concerns with professor or director as needed

6. Be a leader

a. Be Faithful and responsible

b. Able to improvise on the spot

c. Openness to new and different ideas

d. Solve problems quickly and efficiently

7. Males work with only male students or combined class, females work with any combination

8. Work well with kids

a. Connect with them (know their name)

b. Be interested in their lives

c. Make them feel welcomed and appreciated

d. Have fun with them/interact

e. Teach them how to be a good person by being a good example yourself

f. Supervise over them with professor being lead

9. Work well with their parents

a. Get to know who they are

b. Help them to trust leaving their kid with you

10. Opening and Closing

a. Monitor kids

b. Keep involved and quiet when needed

c. Keep in designated section

d. Help facilitate sign in/out procedures

11. Be involved

a. Willingness to play games or do a skit

b. Sometimes design to opening/closing program

12. Help Clean Up

a. Rearrange sanctuary and rooms

b. Clean up trash and floors

c. Clean out and wipe down jumping castles

 

6.  After Care (blue shirt)

a. Must be in High School or above

b. Minimum wage set by the state of AZ for that year, 3 hours per day

c. Hours are from 3:00pm to 6:00pm

d. Job description includes but is not limited to the following:

7.  Snack/Lunch Crew

a. Must be in High School or above

b. Hired on an as needed basis

c. Minimum wage set by the state of AZ for that year, 3 hours per day

d. Hours are from 11:30pm to 2:30pm

e. Job description includes but is not limited to the following:

f. Qualifications include the characteristics listed above

 

8. Intern—volunteer (green shirt)

a. Must be middle school age (7th and 8th grade)

b. Volunteer position only, NOT a paid position

c. Hours are from 9am to 3:00pm

d. This is a Leadership Camp for this age group

i. Learn all the facets of being a good leader listed in the qualifications listed for Professors and Teacher Assistants

ii. Help out in classrooms to supervise students or wherever is needed

e. Students who show good leadership quality and willingness to learn as an intern will be given priority over other applicants in the future

 

9.  Volunteers

a. Any student/adult in the 7th grade or higher can volunteer

b. Volunteer position only, NOT a paid position

c. Hours will vary

d. Volunteering can be used as a leadership opportunity, serving and loving others, fill community hours, etc.

e. Qualifications are dependent on the position and listings above.
