Below are descriptions of the ways in which prayer is an essential part of the fabric of Ascension; for its members, families, friends, and community and the procedures to follow for each:
Calling Ascension to prayer: “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever.” Ephesians 3:20-21
The Elders have extended an invitation to all who attend Ascension to come together for a brief time of prayer after each of our three services. We would like to see corporate prayer become more and more a part of the “fabric” in the life of Ascension.
After each weekend service, we will gather in the southwest corner of the sanctuary; someone will be there to gently facilitate a brief fifteen-minute time of prayer.
We will provide some suggestions for prayer topics;
• Pray that the Lord will pour His Holy Spirit out on the church (on Ascension) in full measure.
• Pray that the Lord will build the church (Ascension) into a place where people are free to worship, grow and serve.
• Pray that the work of the Ascension congregation will be for God’s glory and not its own.
• Pray to recognize where the Lord is at work and building His church at this moment.
• Go through the various rooms of Ascension in your mind’s eye: the sanctuary, the children’s’ classrooms, the entry ways into the church, the offices, etc. Pray for God to build His kingdom in each of these spaces.
however, please bring whatever is on your heart. That’s it… The church coming together to pray… expect great things from our God! On behalf of the Ascension Board of Elders, Randy Longacre, co-chair
After Service Prayer: Following each service a pastor/vicar/deacon/prayer minister will be available near the front of the service for any prayer needs.
Prayer Book & Pastor’s Prayers: A prayer book is located on a podium inside the Narthex of our Family Life Center. We ask that you be complete in filling out the form located in the book and understand that the information requested is helpful to our pastor and staff. The Pastor will read these prayers during worship for that weekend. In addition, if you would like these prayers printed in the worship bulletin the following week, please be sure to indicate this in the space provided on the form.
Prayers in the weekly worship service bulletin and the weekly newsletter: Each week we include a list of people in our worship bulletin who are in need of prayers. This is a public form of prayer request usually for those recently hospitalized, those with upcoming surgeries, those that are at home sick, and also for those family members and friends who are sick and out of town. We also list prayers of Thanksgiving, Blessings, and Compassion on a weekly basis.
Please contact the church office at 520-297-3095 or EMAIL us if you would like the name of someone included in the weekly newsletter, Connections.
Any prayer requests for the worship bulletin should be made no later than Tuesday Noon of each week. Any requests received after this time will unfortunately not be included until the following week. However, we will try to include these additional prayers in the Pastor’s verbal prayers during worship.
