Ascension Lutheran Church mirrors the northwest Tucson community surrounding us when it when it comes to its seniors population. Over 50% of our members are seniors and a like percentage, or more, are residing in the many senior residences and communities nearby. We believe one of our responsibilities as a church body and active participant in the community is to provide an opportunity for this growing and aging community of seniors to come together, be better connected...and where, as friends and neighbors, we truly are caring for each other.
Senior Connections is the name for our Senior's Ministry at Ascension as we are all about connecting seniors... with Jesus, with each other, and with the community. Ours is a mission of sharing and caring, and of creating opportunities for enjoying the company and fellowship of other seniors.
Senior Connections is designed to be a community social service for seniors and is sponsored by Ascension Church in partnership with Pima Council on Aging (PCOA) and "Neighbors Care Alliance". The Alliance, comprised of many neighborhood and regional support organizations, assists neighborhoods and faith based organizations in helping seniors remain independent and in their home's as long as possible through the support of neighbors helping neighbors. While our programs primarily offer social and fellowship opportunities, we can, because of our partnership with PCOA and the Neighbors Care Alliance, readily offer referrals to the many care and support groups and services that are available to seniors throughout Pima County.
Senior Connections offers a couple different ways to get connected and enjoy the companionship of other seniors:
First Friday Friends is a monthly event which meets every first Friday of the month from September through May. Entertainment begins at 11a.m. The program is varied: from musical entertainment and the arts to historical documentaries, docent presentations, and educational programs of interest to seniors. A catered luncheon follows the program and is prepared by member and professional chef and caterer, Mardi Burden, owner and operator of "Cuisine Classique". No reservations are needed. A $5 donation is appreciated to help with the costs of food and programs. The event is held in the Worship Center found in the large building at the rear of our campus.
The 2017-2018 schedule including dates, menu, and program is now available here.

Senior Moments is a weekly event offered every Thursday of the year from 1 - 4p.m. NOW in Grace Hall found in the large building at the rear of our campus.
Come and go as you please and enjoy a variety of activities and free snacks. This is designed as an informal social gathering offering card games, board games, puzzles, videos, billiards, or just plain relaxation and conversation. Coffee, tea, and other beverages can be enjoyed as well "nibbles" and "sweets". The idea is to come and have fun, meet new people, get out of the house and stay active.
